Ministry & Protocol
A Day in K-5th Ministry
No one will influence a kid more than a parent. A parent isn’t the only influence a kid needs.
We believe elementary students learn and discover best through repetition and clear application. That’s why we spend each month focusing on one life application such as courage or generosity. We spend 4-5 weeks discovering different ways we can apply God’s truth to our own lives.

A Day in K-5th Ministry

We believe elementary students learn and discover best through repetition and clear application. That’s why we spend each month focusing on one life application such as courage or generosity. We spend 4-5 weeks discovering different ways we can apply God’s truth to our own lives.

By the time a child enters middle school, we want them to know three basic truths:

  1. I need to make the wise choice.
  2. I can trust God no matter what.
  3. I should treat others the way I want to be treated.

Getting Ready

  • Download and preview lesson & small group activities from here at our leader portal.
  • Report to Kids town for our Team Huddle 30 minutes before service starts.
  • Everything you need is prepared ahead of time and in your group folder.
  • Take a moment to pray with your co-leaders before you start check-in.
  • Be seated at blankets & ready to greet and engage kids.

Check-In

  • Greet kids with a smile and by name.
  • Follow our Check-in Process.
  • Invite kids to the blankets to engage with the opening activities.

Opening Activity

This could be a warm-up activity that helps introduce kids to the Bible Story and prepare them for Large Group, or it could be a time connect relationally with your group.

K-5th Large Group

  • Large Group Begins 10 minutes after the service starts.
  • Please sit with your group during large group to model participation and worship.
  • After Large Group ends lead your group to your room and take a room head count to ensure that everyone is present and late arrivals were added.

Small Group

Small Group time is designed for kids to connect with each other and their leaders. Use this time to reinforce the Bible study and engage in real life application activities. Occasionally there will be a “whole class” activity after Large Group, but typically you will come from Kidstown and jump right into the small group curriculum for the rest of the morning.

Checkout

For parents who want to talk longer or ask detailed questions, invite them to stay until pick-up is finished  and chat with you after service. Otherwise, all parents have to wait for the discussion to end! Give parents positive praise about their child and cue them for something their child learned or did in group.

Bathroom

Upon the leader’s discretion, children are allowed in same-sex pairs to use the upstairs bathroom. If the leader feels more comfortable, they may accompany them to the restroom and wait outside.

  • Leaders should wait outside the restroom door.
  • NEVER be alone with a child in the stall of a restroom with the door closed.
  • During the Large Group time downstairs, an adult must accompany the child to the restroom located in the hallway next to the foyer.
